#35 - Sawteeth
Elevation 4100 ft.
Ausable Lake from the Scenic Trail
Access - State Land from N, W. AMR land from E, S. Route - Trails from all directions. Summit - Open lookout, nice views. Quad - Mount Marcy. Mountain Range - Not part of the Great Range, but is just slighly S of it. Winter Access - Yes, same as non-winter access. The AMR holds the key to the most popular route up this peak-winter or not. Misc. - This peak is named after its geological look. From many viewpoints the SE facing ridge has a spine of many small peaks-giving it the look of a saw. Hence, Sawteeth was named. One approach worthy of mentioning is the approach from the Gothics Ridge via Pyramid Peak. This we describe as a must do. The views from Pyramid are astounding, and definitely a top ten in our book.
