Winter climb of Phelps yields a ton of snow
Access - State Land from N, S, E, W. Route - Trail from the SW. Bushwhack via Pelky Basin and Klondike Notch. Summit - Open ridge, great views from just beyond summit on open ledge. Quad - Keene Valley. Mountain Range - No specific Range. Just N of Tabletop. Winter Access - Yes, same as non-winter access. This is a great introduction peak to winter showshoeing and climbing. Misc. - This peak was named after Orson Phelps, who is so often refered to as "Old Mountain" Phelps. He was a guide to the summit of Mount Marcy for many parties, and cut the first trail to its summit. Topomap
