Access - State Land from N,S,E,W.
Route - State trails from three sides. Rte 9N, Hurricane Rd in Elizabethtown, and from Crow Clearing in Keene.
Summit - Solid Rock, 360 degree views. Firetower.
Quad - Elizabethtown.
Mountain Range - Hurricane Mountain wilderness.
Winter Access - Yes, same as non-winter access. The approach from Hurricane Road in winter is very difficult without skis-the road is a seasonal highway and unplowed. Most winter approaches are from Rte 9N-mainly because the road up to Crow Clearing is also seasonal use, and is unplowed. Expect high winds and sub-zero wind chills.
Misc. - Where Hurricane got its name-unsure. Maybe from the high winds that get produced up there quite often, but I wouldn't call it hurricane weather. The summit has a fire tower that is most likely not going to survive the chopping block. There is a petition going around to try and save the tower, and groups willing to restore it. Lets hope it falls on the right ears.
