Access - State Land from N,S,E,W. Route - Two trails to the summit. Bushwhack from Panther Gorge. Summit - Rocky top with 360 degree views. Quad - Mount Marcy. Mountain Range - Great Range. Winter Access - Yes, extreme winter conditions possible. Usually hard pack from traffic, but distance from parking makes this very difficult in winter, especially under exteme conditions or unconsolidated snow. Misc. - Is believed to have the steepest trail in the adirondacks-from the Elk Lake side. Was named by Old Mountain Phelps after its Haystack like appearance. Topomap
