Winter Access - Yes, same as non-winter access. From rte 9N the access is the same distance. From Elk Lake there is added distance, because the road from the Clear Pond to Elk Lake is closed during winter months.
Misc. - Was named after John Dix a former Secretary of State. A hike through Hunter Pass can also add a new look to a hike or complete a days loop for those parked at Elk Lake. Elk Lake parking is very small, during busy months don't be surprised to find the parking lot full.
