Access - State Land from N,S,E,W. Route - State trail up two sides. Bushwhack route via Basin Brook. Summit - Open top with great views. Quad - Mount Marcy. Mountain Range - Great Range. Winter Access - Yes, same as non-winter access. Approach from Saddleback side can be very dangerous, extreme caution should be used. Misc. - Basin is the home of a geological feature refered to by many hikers as an ampitheatre. It's a rugged bushwhack to the site, but well worth the effort. Was named by Old Mountain Phelps because of how it looked one day when he was on Marcy.
