#63 - Avalanche Mt.
Elevation 3800 ft
View of Colden from the ridge route up Avalanche
Access - State Land from N,S,E,W. Route - Bushwhack from all sides. Summit - Wooded with nice views. Quad - Keene Valley. Mountain Range - MacIntyre Range. Winter Access - Yes, same as non-winter access. The N ridge is usually thought to be the best winter approach. With deep snow coverage, winter views are much better on a clear day. Expect heavy snow and exteme winter conditions developing from Algonquin Ridge. Misc. - Avalanche gets its name from the slides that developed in the area. There is a great approach from Caribou Pass which follows an old trail through the pass. However the old trail is very sporadic and hard to follow at times. Topomap
